National Medal of Honor Leadership & Education Center

THE LEADERSHIP & EDUCATION PROGRAM

What are your values? How do they show up in your daily life, in your professional life, and in your day-to-day decision-making?

The National Medal of Honor Leadership & Education Program will be:

A sacred place to draw inspiration and knowledge from Medal of Honor recipients and their stories of valor.

A hub of nationwide collaboration through innovative educational programming.

A means to unite the Country around core leadership values to celebrate and carry forward.

A place to convene and invite discovery.

Developing Leaders through the Values of the Medal of Honor

The greatest way to honor the sacrifice of our Nation’s Medal of Honor Recipients is by telling their stories.

The best way to empower our citizenry to honor their legacy is by educating all Americans from the Medal of Honor Recipient’s examples of courage, integrity, commitment, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism.

Programs will be available to everyone, no special invitation needed. But they are geared toward those that already hold a deep commitment to honoring the MOH recipient values of:

  • Integrity
  • COMMITMENT
  • COURAGE
  • SACRIFICE
  • CITIZENSHIP
  • PATRIOTISM

A National Education Platform

The Leadership and Education Program will embrace and inspire learners of all ages to join us on their own journey to ground their motivations and purpose in these core values. The program will provide a value-based framework designed to immerse learners in the values of the National Medal of Honor.

This interactive experience will provide educational sessions in low-stakes settings with opportunities to explore, practice, and hone the skill sets derived from the six core values – Courage, Integrity, Commitment, Sacrifice, Citizenship and Patriotism

In collaboration with higher education institutions and businesses, we will design and deliver innovative, values-driven leadership development programs focused on the Medal of Honor values.  Delivered in two tracks, both emerging and experienced leaders will develop the necessary skills to meet their moment and become a force to inspire American leadership.

Two Program Tracks:

Emerging Leaders Track

The Emerging Leaders Track is designed to help individuals hone the character and ethical decision-making skills needed to meet the demands of their leadership moments.

It provides educational experiences for individual learners and resources for college educators who teach leadership and ethics. This track will:

  • Connect learners with MOH Recipients, government leaders, and decision-makers from varying sectors who utilize values-based leadership principles

  • Provide learners with an ethical toolkit for navigating complex challenges based on the six core values

  • Offer state-of-the-art learning resources, interactive experiences, and case studies for college educators that allow them to integrate Medal of Honor values-based leadership into existing courses

Existing Leaders and Organizations Track

The Existing Leaders and Organizations Track is designed for more experienced leaders within organizations, helping them better understand how to build and enhance a values-based organizational culture.

This track provides custom values-based leadership seminars for partner organizations and helps leaders understand how to build values-based organizations. Our corporate partners can expect to see measurable value from our program, including:

  • Increased Employee Engagement: Our program helps organizations develop a more engaged and motivated workforce by fostering a culture of values-based leadership

  • Improved Team Performance: Our program helps organizations build high-performing teams that are aligned around a shared vision, shared values and committed to achieving common goals

  • Increased Resilience: Our program helps organizations build resilience by teaching leaders and teams how to respond effectively to adversity and overcome obstacles

Frequently Asked Questions:

The curriculum will be highly interactive, we’re always going to attempt to put the learner in the decision-making seat. The curriculum will be world class, developed by leading experts, and it will be accessible, delivered in a variety of formats and locations. We’ll create learning opportunities by offering in-person seminars and online classes that bring learners together with experts around critical ideas and topics in leadership.

We are launching with a series of short leadership seminars, where a panel of Medal of Honor recipients and outstanding leaders will answer questions and share experiences from their own leadership journeys. Each of our seminars will feature panels of leaders who will speak to the challenges and opportunities of values-based leadership based on their own extensive experience.

One of the primary needs is extending the learning opportunities related to MOH values to adult learners from all walks of life. We also want to provide greater access to leadership resources to learners who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn about leadership from our Medal of Honor recipients or leadership experts. There is a need for inspiration, and we want to expand the impact our recipients and their stories have on people and communities nationwide.

The six core values of the Medal of Honor – courage, integrity, commitment, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism –represent ideals of character that we should all aspire to. Having the Medal of Honor values, and the example the recipients set for all of us, as the cornerstone of this curriculum puts it on much firmer, more universal foundations than many leadership programs. This curriculum aims to help learners prepare to meet their own moments by putting them in interactive scenarios and situations that ask them to exercise these values in the process of making tough decisions.

Five years from now, we envision the Center offering a broad range of programs, courses, materials, and learning experiences to adult learners at all different stages of their leadership journey. We will also be offering a number of courses, fellowships, and leadership seminars through partnerships with different higher education institutions all across the country. We expect we will have a vibrant corporate training program where we partner with interested organizations to create customizable training solutions that help them build values-based organizational cultures where exceptional leaders can thrive.

The National Medal of Honor Leadership & Education Center can help people of all ages, places, and perspectives gain a better understanding of the essential leadership qualities that underpin our freedom and success as a Nation and society every day.

By passing along this knowledge and inspiration, we pay homage to the extraordinary contributions of our Medal of Honor recipients and leverage their example to promote an American identity all citizens can proudly share.

“Our dream is to create a transformational experience for all who enter – young and old alike. This new facility will both educate and inspire the coming generations as it speaks to sacrifice; the cost of freedom; unity of the country; serving something greater than oneself; and bringing our great Nation back together in concert with who we are – and what we represent to the world around us.”
